Double Barrel Honey Mint Julep

Double Barrel Honey Mint Julep

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 oz Bourbon
  • 1 tablespoon Double Barrel Honey
  • 2 tablespoons fresh mint leaves
  • Crushed ice
  • Club soda (optional)
  • Mint sprigs for garnish

INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Prepare the Honey Syrup:
In a small saucepan, combine the Double Barrel Honey with 1 tablespoon of water. Heat over low heat, stirring until the honey dissolves. Let cool.

    2. Muddle the Mint:
In a mixing glass, gently press the mint leaves with a muddler or the back of a spoon to release the oils and flavor. Be careful not to bruise the leaves.

    3. Add Bourbon and Honey Syrup:
Add the bourbon and honey syrup to the mixing glass with the mint.

    4. Fill with Ice and Stir:
Fill the mixing glass with crushed ice and stir vigorously for about 30 seconds to chill and dilute the mixture slightly.

    5. Strain and Serve:
Strain the mixture into a chilled julep cup or highball glass filled with crushed ice. Top with a splash of club soda if desired for a bit of fizz.

    6. Garnish:
Garnish with a sprig of fresh mint and serve immediately.

    Notes:

    • Bourbon Barrel-Aged Honey: This honey adds a rich, complex flavor profile that complements the bourbon beautifully. It's worth using for its unique taste.
    • Adjust to Taste: Feel free to adjust the amount of honey syrup based on your preference for sweetness.

This Honey Mint Julep is a delightful twist on the classic cocktail, perfect for celebrating the Kentucky Derby or any occasion where you want to highlight the flavors of bourbon barrel-aged honey. Enjoy!
